Early Life

Mrunal Thakur was born on August 1, 1992, into a Marathi family in Dhule, Maharashtra. Her father, Udaysing B. Thakur, worked as an Assistant General Manager at Union Bank of India, while her mother is a homemaker; she has an elder sister Lochan, a makeup artist, and a younger brother Mandar.  She attended St. Joseph's Convent School in Jalgaon and Vasant Vihar High School near Mumbai, later pursuing a Bachelor of Mass Media at Kishinchand Chellaram College but dropping out to focus on acting. 

Television Career

Thakur began her acting journey in 2012 with the Hindi TV show Mujhse Kuchh Kehti...Yeh Khamoshiyaan. She gained prominence playing Bulbul Arora in Kumkum Bhagya from 2014 to 2016, earning an ITA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. 

Film Debut and Rise

She made her Marathi film debut in 2014 with Vitti Dandu and Hello Nandan, followed by her Hindi entry in the 2018 international drama Love Sonia, addressing human trafficking. Her Bollywood breakthrough came in 2019 with Super 30 alongside Hrithik Roshan and Batla House, both commercial successes. 

Breakthrough in Telugu Cinema

Thakur achieved pan-India acclaim with the 2022 Telugu romantic drama Sita Ramam, a huge blockbuster, and Hi Nanna in 2023, a super hit. These roles established her as a leading actress in South Indian cinema.

Recent Work and Awards

She has appeared in films like Jersey (2022), Pippa (2023), and The Family Star (2024), alongside OTT projects such as Lust Stories 2. Notable awards include Best Actress for Sita Ramam at Bollywood Life Awards (2023), Best Actress - Critics for Hi Nanna at International Iconic Awards (2024), and several nominations at Filmfare and IIFA. Upcoming releases feature Dacoit on April 10, 2026.
